About me:

My name is Manh, or Mike in English. I’m a IT expert and also an entrepreneur in Hanoi. I like photography, travelling, and cooking.

When I started business in Vietnamese language teaching and translation in 2002, I had the opportunity to meet interesting people from all around the world who came to explore and enjoy my beautiful country Vietnam. The idea of “Home Stay”, which was brand new in Vietnam then, crossed my mind when Tom, an Australian customer of mine, stayed at my home to learn Vietnamese and Vietnamese culture. He had a good time getting to know Vietnamese food (my mother was a great cook) and Vietnamese lifestyle and people when staying with warm and friendly members of my family. And, understandably, his Vietnamese was a great deal better after his stay.

As for foreigners who visit Vietnam for the first time, I know how to help them find Vietnam a home, not a strange country. Anthony, a guy from Britain who came to Vietnam to teach English to small children, contacted me for homestay before he came. I picked him up from the airport, then asked a private tutor to teach him Vietnamese. I also helped him hire a motorbike and taught him how to ride in Hanoi streets as a real Hanoians.

Prime HCM City Real Estate Awaits Investors

Most of the 793 hectares of highly valuable land, commonly known as "golden land" here remains idle due to a shortage of investors with sufficient financial capacity, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported.

Interest in the land, located in districts 1, 9 and Binh Thanh, continues to be intense, city officials have said.

District 1, which includes the prime downtown area, contains 4.9ha of the total golden land area, as well as some of the city's most expensive sites.

Of the eight projects to be located on the prized land, only two are in the pipeline.

SINGAPORE, June 23 (Reuters) - VinaCapital, Vietnam's largest asset manager, aims to raise $350 million in a real estate private equity fund in September to tap a local sector that it thinks has bottomed, a company official said on Tuesday.

The proposed VinaCapital Vietnam Land II fund will focus on residential developments, shopping malls and business hotels, David Blackhall, deputy managing director of VinaCapital's real estate arm, told Reuters in an interview.

"Vietnam is already showing signs that it has stabilised," he said, adding the residential sector offered the greatest potential because prices had fallen sharply since the end of 2007 and the country's growing middle class could afford to buy homes.

SINGAPORE, June 23 (Reuters) - VinaCapital, Vietnam's largest asset manager, aims to raise $350 million in a real estate private equity fund in September to tap a local sector that it thinks has bottomed, a company official said on Tuesday.

The proposed VinaCapital Vietnam Land II fund will focus on residential developments, shopping malls and business hotels, David Blackhall, deputy managing director of VinaCapital's real estate arm, told Reuters in an interview.

Real estate developers in Vietnam are drawing up strategic partnerships with other investors in a sign that the property market is maturing.

A lot of alliances and partnerships have been set up since the beginning of the second quarter, especially in the Ho Chi Minh City real estate market.

Analysts say that the professionalisation of investment, construction, distribution and management will be seen in the market as a move towards sustainable development.

Some of the major partnerships include Hoang Anh Gia Lai Housing Construction and Development Corporation opting for a strategic partnership with An Binh Land Real Estate Investment Company.

Just within three months, from December 2007 to February 2008, the real estate price increased by 300%, and even 500% in some localities. A lot of real estate developers earned fat money from the thirst of the market.


The market was so hot that people had to jostle and scramble to get the right to buy apartments. Those who got the option to buy apartments at that time could pocket VND50mil at least if they re-sold an option to buy apartments.


The lucrative real estate market prompted people to inject money in real estate. People firmly believed that house prices would skyrocket further as Viet Kieu had been allowed to buy houses in Vietnam.
